It has come to my recent attention that people think you can just bomb a crawl space or attic and kill the mold and be just fine and save some money.  I say let’s look into it from the viewpoint of "Standard and Guide for the Professional Mold Remediation ANSI/ IICRC S520."

The manufacturer’s advertisement from their website:

“Easy to use mold fogger, Prevent mold from becoming a growing problem. Mold Bomb Kills mold in just one treatment. Our revolutionary one of a kind delivery system will get places you cannot reach with any other product. Mold Bomb works great for mold suppression, prevention, contents, rooms, appliances, eliminates odors, and disinfects surfaces. Don’t risk a bigger mold problem when you already have with a less effective cleaner.  Go with a product that works, "Mold Bomb"!”

Always remember, Per the S520, "visible mold growth must be physically removed from the surface".

OK here’s the 1st issue I have with this product: “It works great for Mold suppression/ prevention…” This is not removal! By definition, it can only prevent if there is not a problem to begin with. Suppression is being used as meaning to retard or control the growth of mold.

“Mold Bomb Blows Mold Away
Effective as: Disinfectant, fungicide (against Black Mold), Mildewstat, Tuberculocida
Effective against: Pathogenic fungi (Mold), Mildew build up, Kills HIV (aids virus), herpes simplex type 2, Kills H1N1, influenza A, and more!”

2nd issue: Effective as … fungicide (against Black Mold) … fungicide = fungi + kill… (against Black Mold)… are they being colorist here?  There are thousands of molds that are black in color.  Some of these molds when given different food sources are red, purple, orange and yellow in color.  We people use the term "Black Mold" they are commonly referring to Stachybotrys A.K.A "THE DEADLY TOXIC BLACK MOLD"  … Mildewstat … Mildewstat = mildew (fungi on a living organism) + stat (limit and/ or control something)

 How safe are our products?

Our products are very safe to use in home and work environments. EPA has classified many of our products as hospital grade disinfectants. This classification makes them one of the safest antifungal antimicrobials available on the market today. Biocide Labs products are safely used in schools, daycares, food manufacturers, hospitals, and homes across the country. We pride our self on helping keep our clients home and work a clean and healthy place to be.

3rd issue: You really should read the label at this time.  It doesn’t sound “very safe” to me. It wants me to wash my hands before using the toilet? Again doesn’t sound safe. The center part has all of the health hazards listed.  If you don’t want to scroll back in forth here is an excerpt:

Causes moderate eye irritation… Avoid breathing spray mist or vapors… wash hands before eating, drinking, chewing gum, using tobacco, or using the toilet.”

Now they want to demonstrate how easy it is to use:

Simply click the tab on the top of the can to begin fogging.
Seems pretty easy right? But wait there is more….

For effective mold control, Biocide 100 must be used as a surface spray in conjunct with fogging.

I had to contact them on this one, it is not very clear in the directions.  They state that you should use Biocide 100 before fogging.

See label text for complete directions for use and precautionary statements.

Scroll to bottom of page to read it.

At the bottom of their page they have a spot where you can click to add their product to your cart and a little disclaimer about shipping.

One case of Mold Bomb consists of six fogging canisters.

Not available in the State of New York.
There is a 15% re-stocking fee that applies to all returned or refused products.

I know… I know they did not capitalize the word United States.  I’m sorry for them but I copied it the exact way it is on their page.  My final issue is why is it not available in the State of New York?  New York was the first state to put regulations/ requirements on mold remediation.

Like every product of this type they ALWAYS say you should pre- clean the surfaces or REMOVE ALL VISIBLE MOLD GROWTH.

Starting from the top:

Fungalcidal = (fungi + kill) but they only list Athletes Foot which is considered a mildew (mold on a living organism). "Disinfects and controls mold and mildew on hard non-porous surfaces..." That's the same thing that the bottle of bleach says too.

Now comes the fun part:

DIRECTIONS FOR USE: It is a violation of Federal Law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with it's labeling.
Be careful, them are Federal Laws this "professional" is about to break by using this product.

DIRECTIONS FOR FOGGING:  all surfaces must be cleaned and disinfected in accordance with label directions prior to fogging.  Fogging is an adjunct or supplement to normal cleaning and disinfection practices.

DO NOT use in small enclosed spaces...Do not use in a room 5ft x 5ft or smaller.  When you contact the company they add with an 8ft. ceiling. Also it later states, do not use this in an area less than 100 cubic feet. (LxWxH)

This  next part must be important because they repeated it and this time it is in all Caps and in bold.  "FOGGING IS TO BE USED AS AN ADJUNCT TO ACCEPTABLE MANUAL CLEANING AND DISINFECTING OF SURFACES MENTIONED ABOVE."  Do you remember what surfaces they are talking about? That's right, "... hard non-porous surfaces..."

TO CONTROL MOLD AND MILDEW (Aspergillus Niger) and the odors they cause on pre-cleaned, hard, non-porous inanimate surfaces... Repeat application weekly intervals or when mildew growth appears." Wait a second... didn't they say Black Mold? so it isn't the DEADLY TOXIC BLACK MOLD just Aspergillus Niger.  ( Aspergillus Niger is a less common cause of invasive aspergillosis.) (Aspergillus fumigatus is the most common and both are considered to be allergens not toxins!)
